Counseling for Men
Understanding the Unique Challenges Men Face
Men often carry silent burdens. From the pressure to provide and succeed to the expectation of being strong and unemotional, these cultural norms can make it difficult to ask for help. Many men struggle with stress, anger, anxiety, depression, or relationship issues but feel hesitant to seek counseling. The truth is, reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness. It’s an important step toward building a healthier and more balanced life.
We have counselors who specialize in working with men of all ages. We create a safe, confidential space where you can speak openly about what you’re experiencing without judgment.
Common Issues Men Bring to Counseling
Stress and Anxiety
Career demands, financial concerns, and family responsibilities often weigh heavily on men. Over time, unmanaged stress can lead to anxiety, irritability, sleep problems, and even health issues. Counseling can help you develop healthier ways to manage pressure and regain a sense of control.
Depression and Emotional Health
Many men with depression don’t always recognize the signs. Instead of sadness, depression may show up as anger, withdrawal, or loss of motivation. Talking with a counselor helps uncover what’s beneath the surface and provides tools to improve mood, energy, and outlook.
Anger Management
Anger is a natural emotion, but when it becomes difficult to manage, it can damage relationships, careers, and self-esteem. Counseling offers strategies to recognize triggers, calm intense emotions, and respond in healthier ways.
Relationships and Communication
Men sometimes struggle to express emotions, which can create tension with partners, children, or colleagues. Counseling helps improve communication skills, strengthen relationships, and break unhelpful cycles of conflict.
Identity, Purpose, and Life Transitions
From fatherhood to career changes to retirement, men often face major transitions that raise questions about identity and purpose. Counseling provides space to reflect, adapt, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
Why Men Avoid Counseling, And Why It Helps
Cultural messages often encourage men to “tough it out” or keep problems private. While resilience is valuable, ignoring challenges can lead to greater struggles down the road. Counseling gives you tools to:
Reduce stress and anxiety
Improve mood and motivation
Strengthen relationships
Build healthier coping skills
Develop emotional awareness and resilience
Feel more confident and in control of your life
Seeking counseling is not about giving up. It’s about taking action to create the life you want.
Our Approach to Men’s Counseling
We understand that every man’s story is different. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness techniques to tailor support to your needs.
We focus on practical solutions, emotional insight, and tools you can use in everyday life. Whether you prefer a structured plan or a space to talk freely, our counselors meet you where you are.
What to Expect in Counseling
During your first sessions, we’ll talk about what brought you in and what you hope to achieve. You’ll work with a counselor who listens without judgment and helps identify patterns that may be holding you back. Together, you’ll set goals and build strategies to create meaningful change.
Counseling sessions may involve:
Learning stress-management tools
Practicing communication skills
Exploring values and identity
Developing healthier habits and routines
Processing emotions in a safe space
Progress looks different for each person, but many men find counseling helps them feel lighter, more confident, and more connected to the people and goals that matter most.
Flexible Options for Busy Schedules
We know life is demanding. That’s why we offer both in-office and secure telehealth appointments. Whether you prefer to meet face-to-face or from the privacy of your home or office, counseling is designed to fit your schedule.
Take the Next Step
You don’t have to face challenges alone. Counseling can give you the perspective, tools, and support you need to live a stronger, healthier, and more balanced life. If you’ve been feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or stuck, this is your opportunity to make a change. Reaching out is the first step, and we’ll walk with you from there.
I specialize in helping men heal
Tyler Fishbein, LCSW
I've trained and worked for years to help men better understand their challenges and to identify real world solutions. Counseling isn’t just talking about feelings. It’s about implementing strategies that work for you. There is no one size fits all approach.
I believe counseling for men can help you feel less stressed, and stop taking that stress out on your loved ones. We'll work on understanding and managing your stress, and how to communicate with your partner about what you need from them.
If you’re worried about where you are in life and feel like “shouldn’t this be easier?” then now might be the time to reach out and schedule a counseling session. Life may not always feel easy, but it can often be improved through learning specific tools and skills that we weren’t taught growing up. I want to help!
How do you help me reach my goals?
I utilize my training to provide exercises that will help guide you through the healing process. We'll figure out how you are specifically struggling, and develop specific, action-oriented plans to help you overcome those challenges.
Every session is individualized to your needs, because nobody benefits from a cookie cutter approach to therapy. We will focus on the specific strategies that will best apply to your situation. And when something doesn't work, we toss it out and try something new.
This sounds like too much work
When you're overwhelmed, stressed, and anxious, it makes sense that you'd be hesitant to add one more thing (therapy) to your plate.
What OUR patients tend to find is that our work together helps them begin to feel that there is hope again for their relationship and their life. That initial burst of hope is so helpful in buying into the process and doing the hard work involved in repairing your relationship.
Therapy is an investment in your well-being, and much like exercise it takes a bit of effort to see the best results.
